The Earth is our home and Humanity is the ability to recognize ourselves with everything that lives…
Several years ago I helped my friend Peter Boom make it to Italian “2020 – The New Messiah “a book of fanta-ecology in which he imagines the end of the world following a series of ecological disasters caused by man. At that time, early nineties of the last century, already I was part of the nascent bioregional and deep ecology line and I found interesting Peter’s thesis, in which he imagined an awkward attempt by the men in power to save themselves from planetary destruction by means of “a new ark” (in which accomodate themselves and their women) but the project ended miserably in an atomic deflagration self-destructive.
In short the question was and is whether the humans will be able to inherit the earth …
Man’s worlds are manifold but all in thought. Only one is real: this Earth. If we can not keep ours lives honestly on earth as we can hope for salvation emigrating to other planets? How can we hope to be welcomed in extraterrestrial universal life if we have not been able not even to mantain life on our little planet? Thereby I believe that the experiment of our survival must be possible here where we are … Needless to hope in colonies on the moon, on Mars or Venus … Needless to look for water on those desolate worlds if here-where there is so much-we can not keep it clean.
Yet there were already several illuminated scientists and spiritualists who from the dawn of the consumer society warned the man of the the risk of coming out of the science / life equilibrium. Today the human train is derailing with a glitter of crazy shards: GMO, methodical chemical and soil poisoning of earth and water, atomic energy dirty, social and moral depravation, wild urbanization, destruction of the resources accumulated in millennia by nature, etc.
Man in his brief history has enormously transformed the face of the Earth, because he can deliberately modify almost all that constitutes its natural environment and control that grows and lives in it.
The warp of life is, however, so delicate and so linked are among them the climate, the soil, the plants and the animals, that if a component of this complex is violently modified, if some threads are cut off suddenly, the entire complex undergoes a modification. This is the underlying meaning of Bioregionalism and Deep Ecology.
For hundreds of years – and especially in this last century – man has been the cause of detriments, deaths and deep alterations … despite its contemporary ability to create embellishment and harmony. The intellectual power that allows man to design and to build is the same that allows him to destroy. With the increase of the human population the damage to materials as well as the refinement of thought and reflection they grew exponentially.
Unfortunately, this our Earth is not a Bengodi’s land or a cornucopia of eternal abundance … The resources of the planet, patiently accumulated and preserved in his belly, are now in progressive exhaustion. The biodiversity and purity of the living genome are more and more at risk … many animal species only stand in the zoo or in botanical gardens. Everywhere in the modern world all new business and economic and scientific enterprices are followed by plague and malady, Continuous growth is equivalent to the accelerated consumption of goods, the inability to environmental recovery and restoration by nature.
It is necessary immediately and with the utmost seriousness and determination to stop the fall, saving the residual resources and what remains of life wild, not just for the preservation of natural beauty but because of the overall harmony, that is, the real survival of the community of all living beings (and of man himself) depends from those precautions .
The future of humanity, as mentioned, is not in its colonization of other planets in the solar system but in its ability to conserve life on planet Earth.
For this reason, biology, deep ecology, natural spirituality are essential aspects of the new consciousness paradigm. One of the greatest vital mysteries we have a duty to face and to solve it is about our true nature. But religions and science will never be able to give us an answer, if we do not start looking for it directly in us and around us. Otherwise, we will not be able to overstep the repetitive mechanism of wars, insensitive exploitation, racial and among specimens conflicts.
Humanity is not only symbolized by these anthropomorphic bipeds and is not only an organic agglomeration called “body”. We can say that Humanity is the ability to recognize itself with everything that lives and pulsates energetically inside and outside us. Earth is our home, we have inherited it from a slow and laborious global process of life, but are we sure that we can leave it to our future generations in the same integrity and opulence in which we have received it?
Human dignity is also demonstrated in this. Let us therefore accept the challenge posed to ours intelligence.
Evolution has a unique direction, the expansion of Consciousness, stay in it!
